Agreed

On the plus side.....

By going to a University with a jazz program I was able to play with
guest artists as diverse as Don Ellis, Ron Carter, Bob Mintzer, Tommy Newsome,
Carla Bley & Steve Swallow,....etc. Spent a week hanging with Joe Pass and
at another time, spent a week with Bill Evans. I consider this experience
invaluable in gaining perspective of what performing at a high level is all
about. This was a music school in the southwest U.S. that only has a
"moderate" Jazz program, their main focus is education.

Yes, much of the atmosphere was academia at it's worst, however, the
experience gained there (especially for an inexperienced 18yr old) was
worth it.
