Hi Achim, I don't necessarily disagree with a single word you say (hope you follow the double negative!). It is just a matter of opinion and interpretation. I agree that some stuff just shouldn't be there in the first place, but sometimes it's difficult to know where to draw the line. Also, sometimes people may think that others have had a say so why shouldn't they contribute, however trivial or OT. I think overall it's best that everyone accepts OT should be kept to a minimum and respects that. That way, if everyone gives 90% topic and 10% off topic then the whole list will maintain that ratio and some sort of personality. I would hate the list to turn in to a text book. There are a lot of different personalities on the list from all walks of life and you wouldn't get to 'know' any of them if they can't occasionally inject some sort of off topic opinions. I certainly didn't see or detect any offence in your posting. You are as entitled to an opinion as anyone else. Likewise, I hope you didn't get that feeling with mine.
