Upgrade (sorry) q for emagic on LAWG4 to LAWP5

2002-02-18 by monsdrum

Hi there

I feel a bit sorry to bring on the subject of upgrading, since many
of the times this has happened before, it has ended in quite
longwinded threads with a considerable amount of abuse involved; this
is just a simple question and I would really just like a simple
answer (preferably from one of the emagic guys). After that, I'll
leave the subject again.

I finally ordered my upgrade, wanting to go from LAWG4 to LAWP5. I
had by a few emails from my local distributor (Roland Scandinavia,
distributing emagic in Denmark) understood that I would have to first
upgrade LAWG4 to LAWP4, then LAWP4 to LAWP5. However, the dealer
called Roland while I waited, and heard that an upgrade that goes
directly from gold4 to platinum5 will be available within the next
months. If that's true, it would certainly be nice, probably save me
some money. Can anyone confirm that this product will be released?

He also said, that while the LAWP4 -> LAWP5 should land in Denmark
this friday, the LAWG4 -> LAWP5 wont be available for at least
another month. Having learned from the users here, that the upgrade
is actually nothing but a fresh CD installer for LAWP5, I don't
understand why the gold4 -> platinum5 is so much different from the
platinum4 -> platinum5, that I couldn't just get one of these CDs
landing this friday? I mean, since they don't actually relate to the
software previously installed, the CD should be the same, shouldn't
it? Or am I missing some point here? The dealer I spoke to was
equally baffled - we both agreed that it didn't make much sense
saying "we sell this product available from this friday, and then we
sell another product which is exactly the same, only it wont be
available for another month".

Any comments and/or explanations??

regards

monsdrum
