It's a new technology to use your mobile phone to have access to the net all around the world. I think there are some phone companies in the EU that offer this service. I bet BT offers this service for all over Europe. I know KPN(www.kpn.com) offers this service in the Netherlands. There are companies all across Europe that offer this service. I don't know what your friend needs exactly, but if it was for use of messages, why not use web based email, if it's only email that's needed. And if you need storage, use space at drivestorage.com. Hope this gives you something to start with.
