does the stock EX-800 receive single parameter change sysex messages?
i saw there was a soundquest/midiquest editor.
looking at the manual pdf now. it appears to deal with data dumps only.
i have not tried sending a data request to it yet.
(F0 42 21 01 10 F7) 
will this make it respond with the correct format for parameter change messages?
if so, does it use a checksum?

Your version does not support syxex single parameter changes. The latest version does. Download the latest version zip file and check out the MIDI implementation there.

Sorry, I got your question confused.

The original EX800 supports a few MIDI CC's but the vast majority of parameters cannot be controlled.

I have decided to create forums for the HAWK800 and AtomaHawk kits away from Yahoo.

reason for question is that i saw midiquest/soundquest appeared to have an editor.
don't have that software so was unable to check.
wonder why they list it.

reason being, i wanted to see if i could knock up a NovationSL template for the standard EX800,
before installing the kits, using the regular sysex. so that doesn't look possible - by the look of things, the MidiQuest editor is for the Poly800 mkII.

Did, however, find an editor for EX800, written in C# using Leslie Sanford's 'MIDI toolkit'.
think it was on  SourceForge, and i'm not sure what you do with this zip, looks like it needs to be compiled.
the UI looks like an old-style windows program.

so i wonder how that works, if the EX800 is not supposed to receive single parameters.
from the images, it handles the main parameters but not all.

just curious about this really. i'm planning to do a RemoteSL mapping for the Hawk parameters instead,
using the NRPN feature on the RemoteSL, which i haven't tried yet.
(Or do these templates already exist?)

oh: i see, no: looking at the hawk midi implementation chart, there's TWO other methods by the look of things:
'parameter bank' select controller, followed by 8 generic parameter controllers
and
CC 84 and CC85 as 'Quick Parameter change - which is a bit like a simplifed form of NRPN: call up the parameter, then send the value.

and then it's own NRPN implementation (i have a bit of a phobia about NRPN since noob days).

have to figure out how this is going to be mapped onto a RemoteSL :-)

There is a Remote25 SL template in the template folder.
