Stucked in Flash Mode

Stucked in Flash Mode

2019-03-13 by damaandrea1@...

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Korg poly 800/Hawk800. I've updated the software to the 2.66 verison, all the procedure went fine but now is stucked in Flash mode. Any idea on what it could be?

Thanks

Andrea

Does your boot up show B19F26? If that is what you see when you start up your HAWK while holding down the bank hold button, then you don't have the latest boot code.

If you hold down the bank hold button and power up with boot code version 1.98, 1.99 and 2.00, you will see "B x. xx" followed by "F x. xx".

You must have version 1.98 or higher before you can upgrade to v2.66.

You can downgrade to v2.65 to recover your synth. And if that version does not work. You can downgrade even further.

But if you absolutely sure that you want to get to version 2.66 then you will need to upgrade your boot rom.

Unless I got something wrong. So let us know if you actually see "B19F26"?

/Mike

Hey Mike thanks for your answer.

B 1 .95  - F 2. 66 is what I see when I start up the Hawk holding the Bank Hold Button now.

B19F26 appears when I go in Tools mode - Function 1.

I've tried to downgrade to v2.65l and to 2.59a but is not working, error 1 appears

Error 1 means you are sending invalid MIDI to the HAWK. Check your MIDI set up is not sending other MIDI and make sure there are no MIDI loops.

Boot version 1.5 was written for version 2.53. But it was able to run on 2.55. I don't think it will go any further than that.

So you might actually be better off upgrading your boot ROM to the latest boot code.

Could you explain me what is the right process to update the boot ROM code in this case?

Thanks

It seems there is no way to update the boot code at the moment. Since I've tried to downgrade the software the synth is not able to receive Midi anymore. Setup is still the same, was working before and not working now.

You think is necessary for me to upgrade the boot ROM on the Hawk 800 or would be the code enough?

I'm new to this and I've recently got my first Poly800 so any help is really appreciated.

Thank you in advance

The ability to flash into your Poly either boot code or the software itself should work as long as your Poly can get into FLASH mode.

If you want to get to version 2.65, you MUST have boot code version 1.98, 1.99 or 2.00.

If you try to run 2.65 on boot code that is below 1.98, it will NOT work.

Upgrading the boot code requires sending the boot code to the synth in FLASH mode and then swapping the boot rom with the flash rom next to it.

If you don't swap the chips, then the boot software is NOT upgraded.

One last thing...

Be very, very careful when you do the boot code upgrade. You don't want to brick your Poly! Then you have to get a boot ROM from me. Less playing time - is not good!

Hello Mike,

I'm at a point now where I'm stucked in ERROR 1 after trying to send the BOOT code to the poly.
When I've updated the software to 2.66 all the process went fine (GOOD 0, GOOD 1, GOOD 2) using the same set up I've at the moment, with no changes.

Since I've tried to downgrade the software it seems is not receiving any midi message (BOOT, EEPROM) - FLASH 1 - ERROR 1.

I've anyhow tried to update the BOOT code following the process of inserting CHIP 28C256 in the BOOT ROM socket, and the synth didn't power up.

I don't understand where is the hitch here, I'm wondering if I should somehow reset completely the hawk800 and re-install everything, if possible.

What is your opinion about?

Thanks

Put the original 28C256 back into the boot ROM socket and make sure that booting up you get into FLASH.

Then we can keep trying.

Did you swap the ROM's back?

/Mike

I've managed to send the BOOT code via Midi, swapped the chips and now the synth is WORKING!

Thanks for your help :)

Does that mean that you were able to install version 2.65 of the code too?

Cheers from Connecticut!
