Write switch now working

Write switch now working

2016-11-03 by gleesonalan@...

Hi All

Haven't used my Poly 800 II in a while. I now notice the "write" button is not working. I have replaced the battery correctly, I think. I have loaded sounds from a sysex dump and the patches remain after a power off, would that indicate I have replaced the battery correctly? Anyway anyone ever had any issues with the write switch not working. The write switches on the back are set to "enabled".

thanks

Alan

I've had a similar problem with mine.

Are you trying to load patches from tape and not getting them in, or are you just trying to edit some and save them to memory?

Just trying to save edited patches. All the other buttons work fine, and I checked the cabling inside, everything seems in order. Only thing I can think of is a battery issue, but if it stores patches I loaded using sysex I think that means the battery is ok?

Is this a Poly-800 Mk II? The original Poly doesn't load or send via SYSEX.

It could also be the first chip, which can fail like this, apparently. It's a $5 part, but if it doesn't work right, the Poly won't retain presets after you turn it off and unplug it from AC.

That's what was wrong with mine, and we found that out after replacing the battery. So, assuming your battery is fresh and is getting power where it needs to, it could be that chip.

Hi Steve, thanks for the info. It's a Poly800 II. It stores the patches loaded from sysex after a power cycle, that's why I think it's not the battery. Could you give a bit more info as to which chip to replace, there's quite a few inside ;)

Thanks
Alan

Alan,
Off the top of my head, I don't remember, but I'll ask the guy who replaced it. It's the very first one on the main board, and it's just a $5 part, but I'll get the part number for you.
