EX-800 and sound-diver???

EX-800 and sound-diver???

2003-08-12 by the_emulatorii

hey there!!!!

i have an EX800 - like it very much, but there is one thing i don´t
quite understand...

why is there no editor-module for the EX800 or POLY800 in a
professional software like sóund-diver from emagic???

they have them all - you can even controll a memory-moog with sound-
diver... ????????BUT WHY NOT EX800 / POLY800??????????

the customer service can´t really help, they said i should be
patient - but i posted an email more than two years ago - same
topic - same answer - please be patient...

here the questionbs:

which functions of the EX800 are controlable via MIDI/sysex
is there maybe a "freeware-editor arround somewhere?

thanx, simon

Well, you shouldn't get all upset about it. The Polys and the EX
were made loooooonnnnnnnggg before editing hardware via a PC was
common, especially non-sampling units. Most apps these days for
hardware made in the '80s and early '90s are user-created apps
anyway. Unless, of course, you want to dig up an old Atari system
and use that.

I'm sure others here have more relevant answers, however I wonder,
aside from triggering notes via MIDI, and possibly a SYSEX dump to
save patches, why you need an editor for the EX in the first place?
It's such an easy unit; sounds to me like more trouble to implement
an editor for it than it is just to reach over and punch a few
buttons.

Even with the knob mod(freq/res) the editing is still tedious. IMHO, a screen of knobs would be infinently better, like the niffty juno 106 editor.

Ha Ha good luck. I've always wondered same. Midi Quest XL has it on
list. Wonder if sys dump only. Of course. But that's cool. At
least a librarian, not that either. But you're in same shape as me
in considering my controller: JX 10 Roland. For some reason IT HAS
NO MIDI EDITING VIA SOFTWARE! I don't use for sound anymore. If
there's a synth that has no editing features, I have it. I have to
figure out a way to easily dump sound file from my ex's "tape out"
mini pluggers to my sequencer for easy load and save.

Re: EX-800 and sound-diver???

2003-08-14 by the_emulatorii

well thanx for the replies so far - first of all i will answer the
questions, which have occurred:

of course the EX800 is quite simple to program, but i find it
extremely annoying having to step through those menues all the time.
oi bought sound-diver just for the synths which are controlled by
these "multifunctional" menues, or don´t have an editor at all -
for example:

- DX7-II-fd
- TX802
- matrix 1000
- JX8P (i don´t have a controller)
- EX800

all of them are in my oppinion hard to deal with and this is why i
went out and bought the software. but now i find the software
annoying, because the synths are only supported partly...

i mean why the f... should i use a software-editor for a synth like
JD800 - it has all the sliders right on the board. they have an
editor for the JD800 - but not for synths, which would really need
an editor (like the Poly/EX800)

this really pisses me off - i have complained to emagic two years
ago and again now - they´re not interested and tell me i should
check the updates to see if i will have what i want some fine day...

brilliant - thanx for the conversation and congradulations to a good
customer-support. what use is a software of a big company like
emagic if it isn´t complete? i can understand, that they have
problems supporting all the NEW synths that come out, BUT we are
talking of VINTAGE synth - their number will not increase anymore!

i don´t understand this, two questions:

1: is there an software-editor (for true parameter-editing) out
there somewhere????

2: which parameters of the EX800 can be ajusted via MIDI/sysex?????

thank you all - best regards, simon

oh and by the way, the name is SCHWARZENEGGER and i am sad that
people, who were not born in USA can´t be elected to beeing
president.

because if it were possible - ARNOLD from old-europe would rule the
USA and that would hopefully change a lot of things to the better...

PEACE!

So you can save and manage banks on your hard drive.

Well, the answer is simple. To my knowledge all Poly-800 (and the
EX-800) do not support any single parameter control via MIDI. So it
is not *possible* to do things like moving a slider on the PC and the
corresponding sound parameter changes.
Why? The Poly 800 (MK I) was the FIRST Korg synthesizer that had MIDI.
I dont think that they even thought about this in those days. They did
not even include such a basic command as MIDI Volume!
