Mk 1 has a chorus, Mk 2 has a delay
Mk 1 is sort of brown and green, Mk 2 is black and blue
Mk 1 can't do sysex, Mk 2 can.

Also I think the Mk 2 is less succeptible to crashing and losing all the
patches.

In addition to having delay instead of chorus, the Poly-800 II also had two
parameters for EQ. And it allowed the sequencer to be put into repeat mode.

The parameters were also shuffled a bit so parameter 41 didn't control the
same thing on both instruments.

My firsthand experience, many years ago, told me that the same settings
programmed into the Poly-800 and Poly-800 II produced sounds that were not
identical. And it wasn't just delay or chorus and EQ. There were subtle
differences.

Hi,

there were also some improvements during the mk1-phase:

The first one's had no backup battery, all patches were lost when the
poly800 has been turned off.
2nd step has some areas on its PCB so its possible to add a backup battery
on your own.
3rd step has an in-built battery so the patches are never lost, also if you
put away power supply and batteries at the same time!

But, it often looses its patches if you connect it to a sequencer, I think
that's fixed on the Mark 2?

Patches disappeared

2001-10-21 by Sami Liuski

Hi!

I'm new to this list since I just few months ago bought
my Korg-Poly 800 Mk1. I had this really weird problem when
I hooked my poly-800 to a computer sequencer. Suddenly all
the patches disappeared! Fortunately I hadn't made many
of my own presets so the loss wasn't that big and I could
find the factory presets from the net that I succesfully
loaded in.
Can anyone tell in what circumstances this patch disappearing usually
happens?

Regards,
Sami

Hi Sami,

it seems to be a software bug.

Can you tell me the URL where to find the factory presets?

Thank you,

ski

This is quite a frequent problem for the Poly 800. Generally it's caused by
something sending it midi data that it can't understand. So it's best to
try to filter out everything but note on/off, pitch and modulation, and
patch changes.
