Testers wanted : Hawk 800 Max for Live editor

Testers wanted : Hawk 800 Max for Live editor

2014-12-09 by lists@...

Hello,

I'm wrapping up work on a Max for Live editor for the Hawk 800. It supports every parameter in the 2.5.9 firmware. I'm working on cleaning up the UI and adding SYSEX single/bank file reading and a randomize feature with parameter group locking.

I could use a couple users to help test out that the functions are all working. Especially somebody with a v2 to test the FX since I'm developing off an EX-800.

Many, many hours go into making a full featured editor so the final product will most likely be commercial to help fund a second Hawk to build in a mk2. Testers get the benefit of a free license.

Cheers,

Joe Mattiello

Can you resend instructions on setting it up?
I'd like to get my HAWK800 website improved and will include links to your efforts.
I can do some testing but I only have a MK1 these days.

I'd like to test this, too. Have my mother coming to stay this weekend though, so won't be able to get onto it until next week.

Cheers,

Alex

Great, thanks for the responses so far. I just finished the extremely tedious task of making a pixel perfect layout in Max. This patcher uses the new Max 7 custom UI scripting, which allows completely custom looking objects that behave otherwise as expected. This allows having Max for LIve objects that are fully automatable in Live but don't have to look like your standard Ableton controls.

I have some debugging to do on some parameters that are sending incorrect values and should hopefully have a first testing version in a few days.

A teaser of the UI (note some Max 7 bugs like text labels left aligning when assigned center)
EX800 themed. May consider MK1 and MK2 themes when Max 7 is less buggy

That looks great, Joe!
Looking forward to testing it. I guess I'll have to get hold of Max 7, though.
Incidentally, did you have to use some kind of Max external, in order to send and receive sysex through Max4Live? This was always the stumbling-block with M4L synth editors.
Keep up the good work.

Hey Alex,

I'm not quite sure if you'll need Max 7 or not. You might have to download it and point Ableton's Max preferences to that version but you don't need a Max 7 license. Last time I looked, it did work with Max 6, but that was before I added the custom UI which is a Max 7 feature. It should fallback to the standard UI controls though I would think.

I use an external max patch for routing sysex via UDP. It works well, though this being my 3rd editor that needs an external patch I'm planning on consolidating it into a generic patch that can add an arbitrary number of sysex-udp tunnels so they can all run through a single patch instead of one per editor.

I just finished the randomize patch function so I'll be sending out the first test version shortly.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe,
I know it's been a while. Are you doing anything with the Max for Live plugin for HAWK800 now? Is it essentially done?
Do I have to have Ableton to use it? Is there some other way?
Excuse my silly questions. I am trying to expand the HAWK web site.
