Joystick won't bend

Joystick won't bend

2014-09-29 by tim.tashpulatov@...

Hi all,

Smee again. Now my Poly 800 won't bend with joystick. Vibrato and VCF however work, it is only bends to the left and to the right that do not work.

I have checked the joystick pot that is responsible for bending, it appears to be working. What can I check next? I was suspecting the bend amount slider, perhaps anyone has any clues?

Regards

Tim

Yep, probably the slider. See if you can clean it but be careful. The paint or lacquer that they put on the poly800 can come off so try not to get anything on it.
I usually remove the circuit board and get some isopropyl alcohol in there and then squeeze the tip of a cotton bud/q-tip with some pliers and poke it in the slider and try to clean the track, and if I want to do a good job I de-solder and take the slider apart to clean it.

Hi;

if I recall correctly KLM601 or KLM601a are responsible for setting the
bend range in either direction. If there's a failure on this board one bend
direction will be missing.

Tim,

If you have the HAWK installed you will need to make sure that the bend parameter P2 85 is set high. Maximum bend depth is 63. No bend = 0.

Mike,

Thanks a lot, it was indeed P2 85 set to zero. As soon as I set it to full bend everything started to work :)

I only have to recall how do I save changes made to the patch. If I switch to another patch and come back P2 85 is again set to 0.

(And thanks all for your input!)

Regards
Tim

to save patch settings, press WRITE and then enter the patch number you want it stored at.. to save it in the same location, just re enter that number.
i forget if you need to ENABLE the write switch on the back or not..  if you have a problem, check that switch.

Thanks, I feel like being completely dumb :) I did press WRITE button, but ignored flashing "--" thinking it would save into the same location, just like my guitar processor would! :)

It all works, I am happy now!

I've also uploaded a standard ex800 patch to default my newly adapted (jay!) hawk800 but it seems pitch data on P2 defaults to zero if these
parameters are not available.

Shouldn't that be set to 63 by the Hawk firmware then? This way you're able to load standard sysex files and retain the pitch range?

Yes, that is a very good point.

I shall update the software and will post it on sourceforge within a week.
