modularize

modularize

hello, just a stupid quesyion perhaps, since i'm unable to analyze the schematic properly and i didn't find a detailed breakdown of it anywhere. i also didn't find this topic on rhe forum.
is there a possibility to disconnect the blocks of the poly-800, wire it to a patchbay grid or i/o sockets and reconfigure with wires? in other words make a modular out of it?
and perhaps chain it to external devices this way?
thanks in advance

there are certainly many ways in which you can patch in to the various stages.

Especially, people mod the Poly to intercept the filter input since the filter (NJM2069) is really nice.

The DCO's are DCO's so there's not much you can do with them which also means that they are the major sound producing limitation of the Poly.

Quite a few of the features of the Poly are done entirely in software and use an digital to analog converter to control such as the modulation, VCF and resonance so it would be almost impossible to make any of those controls modular.

You can find the schematic in the files section here http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/lKyLURzS0lvJSZRD3HG9YRfp0S-9eEQyEkpobRvn-3J5f6izp0xCO85xLiWE6MTg-0y8JCIPsUZAlBGErvBx/1%29%20Poly-800/Servicing/P800Schematic.zip

thanks for a quick reply.
i will try to crunch the schematic thanks to .txt explanation i had no access to before, and consider already-designed mods. indeed some aspects are fundamentally different from modular concept. but let me see.
thanks and brg, and sorry for typos.

Hi ,
I was plannig to lead-out some points ( DCO1, 2 outputs, VCF input, control input for resonance, cutoff..., chorus LFO output...
But I had no time to finish it. I started with block diagram and drawing of important points http://groups.yahoo.com/group/korgpolyex/photos/album/2123369380/pic/199866271/view?picmode=original&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc .

Physicall I tried :
- override DCO2 out of filter - sound was combination of filtered DCO1 and unfiltered DCO2 (i have record, have to find and post it)
- Chorus feedback pot (record should be in file section)
- chorus driving clock slow-down (no record made)
- chorus driving LFO to velocity (no record made - but i can remember it was inspiring)
- external audio to VCF cutoff - "FM" driven with external (record should be in file section)

I can remember, I wanted to start from a base - DCO - I was trying to get some new wave shape by mixing octaves (16,8,4,2) in different ratios as for saw . Then I stucked on it, and never get back... -(

hi

thanks for your input, very helpful.

my first thought was to tap into various "feet" and allow to mix them freely or process individually.

tbc.
