OT - Jovian/Lunar Event

OT - Jovian/Lunar Event

2013-01-22 by bimmerfan222

Just now came in from setting up my 4" reflector scope.

Tonight Jupiter and the moon both fit in my 20x EP.
They are amazingly close to each other tonight.

Amazing view, the Moon 2/3, Jupiter, and two of Jupiters moons opposite each other.. all fit in one single FOV.

Anyway, thought I'd share since Astronomy has come up before.. perfect 10* evening for crisp views...

Waiting for the concerto piece to accompany this vision.

Please tell me you had a digital camera attached and can share the view with all of us that had nothing but cloud last night. :-(

I wish I had, but was a bit in a rush and didnt even have time to properly let the scope cool down.

Here's a link to a pic a couple other people did.

The first one is how I saw it with the two Jovian moons opposite each other..

This one must have been a different day, I dont see Jovian moons, but click on the Original and Jupiter is big enough to see a couple bands on it.

The event was quite breathtaking to see.. the 8* weather outside was even more so!

Here's a music vid for Martin.. Pink Floyd Echoes synced to 2001: Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite. (like wizard of Oz synched to DSoM)

you guys are going to have to direct me on this:
i step out of my mobile home every night to crisp clear winter
skies struck through with stars. if i stayed out for a couple
of hours i'd have a rotating celestial view. i can see the
Plough rising over the valley with Orion over to the right.
so chuffed not to be in a city any more >;DDDD
(by the way, i haven't fitted my hawk and atomahawk kits yet,
i'm f***ing terrified and keep putting it off)

what terrifies you?

I had mine in the weekend after I received it.. the IC's can be tricky to remove.. just takes patience and a few good tools.. mainly a really good, hot iron.

you're really missing out on a ton of fun after it's in ;)
