EX-800 Schematic and service manual

Re: [korgpolyex] EX-800 Schematic and service manual

Use the Poly-800 (PS-800) schematic. It's almost exactly the same as the EX-800.

Hi,
I can not find the EX-800 service manual and schematics.
Thank you for your help.
Philippe.

I do not think the schematics are exactly the same.
For example, on board buttons and display, the number of diodes are not the same, the number of buttons is not the same.
So I think there may be other important differences.
That is why I am looking for the service manual of the EX-800.

They are close enough to understand the complex bits. The fiddly bits
like the control board and so on aren't hard to figure out.

Just what information from a schematic are you after? That might help us to direct you to what you need.

The only buttons missing are the Chord, Hold & Poly buttons. Since a EX800 doesnt have a keyboard, Korg ommitted those buttons.
Since those buttons were not included, there will be three diodes missing as well for each of those buttons.
The joystick is also obviously not on a EX800.

But the main board inside a EX800 is the exact same as the one inside a Poly800. If I had an EX800 and insisted on having the three extra buttons and joystick, I could install them without too much difficulty since the mainboard inside a EX800 has support for them already in place.
Why on earth would Korg go out of there way to create a new mainboard for a EX800 when a Poly800 board will work?

I suspect one thing that is different between a Poly800 main board and EX800 main board is the code on the ROM/Firmware chip to give the EX800 some sysex capabilities that the Poly 800 M1 doesnt have.
But that's a software difference, not a hardware difference.

As far as I know, there isnt anywhere online that has a pdf EX800 service manual/schematic. You might find an actual paper copy/manual on ebay.. but you'll probably have to pay around $20 for it.

Notice I used the word "almost".

The diodes are for the Poly/Chord/Hold buttons that are not used on the EX-800. Other than that, there is ALMOST no difference.

Certainly for the purpose of troubleshooting and repairing an EX-800, the Poly-800 schematic is all you need if you know what you're doing.

Ok, I'll use POLY-800 service manual and schematics.
Thank you for your help.
I'll make another user interface for the EX-800 using one button and one led for each parameter and an encoder for Up / Down value buttons.
Philippe.
