Am i doing something wrong? (for midi out not to work)

My poly800 mk1 receives midi signal fine from my DAW, however it does not send ANYTHING at all.
Ive connected midiOX to observe the midi/usb converter and there is no activity coming out from poly800.
Is this just a faulty converter? (i have a new one coming to test soon) - isnt it very odd that it only partially works though?
