help! Ex 800 start stop button not working!

2002-12-08 by geronimo inutiq <madeskimo@yahoo.com>

any tips on how to get the sequence start/stop button to work
properly?? I have to press very very hard to have a chance of it
working... would be sad to lose such a neat feature!

the sequencer works with the switch on the back of the unit.  Press the switch to one side, then play the keys that you want to program for each step,  then press it to the other side,  start/stop it.

Does that help?

Hi Gironimo,

if I understand right it's a know problem for silicone keypads.
You may know this effect from your TV-remote, the most pressed keys "power"
"+" or "-" are often bad there, too.
I have a Poly800 and opened the keypad section never, but it feels like a
silicone keypad and I expect the same principle for the EX800.

You have to disassemble your device as long as you get to the keypad. There
should be a silicone rubber mat with black carbon dots that have the switch
function. Clean the rubber mat and the PCB surfaces carefully and it should
help.

If there are completely different switches and I'm wrong, you may have a
look on the plastic key caps, which have sometimes small pins (actuators)
with press on a switch that is soldered on a PCB (I know this from my Roland
D-10).
Sometimes it's necessary to change those switch components. But sometimes
the plastic pins on the hard caps are deformed and too short because of the
strong pressing before. It could help to glue something between hard cap and
switch, or to change caps or switches with a key you don't need so often -
whatever that is...

Greetings,

Olaf
