tune/pitch bend problems

tune/pitch bend problems

2010-06-13 by davidmochen2

Hi group, it's been a while,

I have a problem with my Poly. After not using for a couple of months or so, I found out it developed a very weird tune-pitch bend problem. In a nutshell, tune slider seems not to be able to fine tune the Poly but rather it covers almost a whole octave (the default full pitch bend range for the Poly, as if holding down a note with joystick fully to the left and then moving it all the way to the right).

I am troubled since I do have the intention to go install the Hawk mods, but certainly not before having fixed this.

I posted a video in You Tube depicting the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSOtu4YxUCs.

Any and all help to bring my Poly back to normality will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Hello Poly fans, me again, trying to revive my post. Any suggestion from all you gurus regarding the problem exhibited by my Poly? I hope it is not such a strange or difficult condition to fix...

Please let me know if the video is clear enough or if more information is needed.

Thanks very much,

David

Without having seen the video:

Both the Master Tune and the pitch bend go through the KLM601/KLM-601a (I
recently tried to figure out what was wrong with one of my Poly's). First
thing I would look for is loose wires around the KLM-601 or the points
where it connects to the main board.

(One of my Poly's was missing the whole 601/601a board and exhibited also a
very weird problem that was in some ways similar to the one described by
you: no master tune, and pitch bend only in one direction; and either zero
or full).

If that doesn't help we'll look further.

I would start by checking that all of the cables that go from the tuning board and the joystick board are all plugged in and working correctly.

I would also check the power supply rails (both +5V and -5V).

Then I would check that the ground is OK on those boards too.

Mike

Thanks Malte and Mike for your help!

The ground cable (black) that goes to the 601a was indeed loose. I resoldered it and presto! works like a charm again.

Thanks again for being so responsive and knowledgeable.

Time to start getting money into my PayPal account, I figure...

Mike, I will definitely want a Hawk 800-AtomaHawk kit. I think I'll be able to shell out those bucks in a month or so.

cheers

David
