AtomaHawk obseletion of critical chip

AtomaHawk obseletion of critical chip

Yes, would you believe it but Dallas has obsoleted the digital potentiometer chip that is used in the AtomaHawk kit.

They don't have a replacement either. So if you want to get yourself the AtomaHawk then let me know. I will order a limited number of the DS digital chips but when they run out, that will be the end of the AtomaHawk kit.

Mike.

That really sucks. What are the specs on that piece? Perhaps it can be sourced from another manufacturer...

What's the digital pot used for? I've never really seen them used as
anything other than programmable trimmers. I'm sure there's something
else you could use. There are various SPI-controllable VCAs out there.

This is the only one that can run a -5V - 0V - +5V rail.

DS1666-10+ is it and I can't find any replacement that does the wide voltage range.

I don't really have web access at the moment so I can't look to see if
the circuit for the Atomahawk mod is in the Files section. What does
the digital pot actually do in the mod?

Hi!

Not a pin exchangeable part but should be functional compatible (also +/- 5V range, 128 steps
and similar interface) and non volatile as an addon:

http://www.intersil.com/products/deviceinfo.asp?pn=ISL95710

unit price 2.12$ (webpage price for calculations)

other pots from Intersil: http://www.intersil.com/product_tree/Digital_Potentiometers_%28DCPs%29.asp

As little adapter PCB would be possible so that you don't have to make a complete redesign.

Ciao
Peter

But the RS-Components (Austria) webpage tells me that they still have 9 package unit
on store (but don't tell you how big one package unit is...).
I could order at least 2000 pieces - you get the unit on store amount when trying to order 10000 pieces...

but also on the UK page:

I won't be doing any redesign of the AtomaHawk.

So these are all out of the question.

The digital pot controls FM-800 modulation. Very important to the AtomaHawk.

I will be ordering a quantity of the DS1666 and when they run, that will be the end of the AtomaHawk.

Hmmm, how many to order?

Mike

Well I'm definitely buying one. I've been meaning to since the day it came out but things kept coming up to steer my cash in other directions. But this pressure is exactly what I need to buckle down with some ramen noodles for a week so I can buy the Atomahawk! So please save one for me, I'll be able to make the payment around this time next month or earlier.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
