i picked up a BK scope on ebay a month ago. just set up your search to exclude anything above 20mhz, tektronix and HP scopes and you will be able to find plenty for $20 or less.
Nothing wrong with HP and Tektronix, they are just such well regarded name brands that even a gutted 20mhz Tektronix fetches a high price.
And I do just FINE with my single trace scope! (oh wait it is dual trace, there is another input on back)

If it's on the back then it's more likely a Z-axis input
rather than another trace. This input allows you to modulate
the brightness of the trace (it's called the Z-axis because
it's like a third dimension - the "in and out" direction).

It allows you you do some interesting tricks (like turning
your scope into a tiny black-and-green TV if you like), but
generally isn't that much use.

I also just picked up a cheap 20Mhz scope on eBay (Lab-Volt AA-793G)
for $27. I'm impatiently waiting for it to arrive so I can poke at my
dead Poly some more.
