eagle has landed

2008-12-18 by Atom Smasher

i just picked up my AtomaHawk from the post office... at first glance, the
whole thing looks as good, or better, than any of the kits i've seen in
electronics stores & catalogs. the boards look great, plenty of IC
sockets, even solder!

i did notice a coin-cell battery holder... i guess i won't need that?

i just hope i'll have time over the holidays to do it...

Atom,

Great to hear you have your kits!

No need for the battery holder. I sent out the last kit with one in it. I included it until they ran out.

Solder? I don't think so. Jumper wire, yes.

The only thing I find annoying about the boards is that the IC solder pads are a tad on the small side.

Other than that, they are top rate.

I try to make a good finished product - :-)

Enjoy and I'm here to help and answer any questions.

Mike.

a good pointy tip on the soldering iron should cope with that. i'm also
impressed that the boards are coated... that's a very nice extra that will
keep the traces from disintegrating over time. i have seen kits that
skipped that step.

Hey, don't know if anyone else has figured this out, but Radio Shack sells those great little butane-powered soldering irons.
I love mine, because you can really 'fine-tune' the heat setting, it's cordless, and you only need to refill it like once every Century!
Don't use it around open sources of fire, though. ;^)
