composition anyone?

composition anyone?

2008-11-13 by Michael Hawkins

One idea I've toyed with is to have each one of us contribute a patch and a sequence which we would then assemble into a composition.

Anyone interested?

I've just made a nice patch. Doesn't really make use of the Hawk mod, I'm afraid, but it IS my all-time favourite Poly/EX-800 patch.
Now to make a little sequence for it.

Incidentally, I just did a simple-patch sysex dump from the EX-800 (with Hawk mod). The resulting file is 177 bytes. Is this about the right size, Mike?
When I load it back in, it doesn't seem to sound much like the original (the envelopes are different, it seems).

Alex,

From my memory, 177 bytes seems right.

But I checked the MIDI implementation chart and my own knowledge of
the code that I wrote and something seems a little off here.

I will check the SYSEX code when I get home this evening.

You could post your sysex of the patch in the files section and I'll
check that out too.

Mike.

Sysex (was Re: [korgpolyex] Re: composition anyone?)

2008-11-14 by Alex Drinkwater

Done.

Patch is in
Files/Modifications/HAWK-800 upgrade kit/Patches/
folder, and is called
'tb_EX800Hawk_ListPatch01.syx'

Also, when I send the patch back to the synth, will it always end up
in memory 11? Could there maybe be a way of specifying where it should
end up?

Re: [korgpolyex] composition anyone?

I know this will probably sound archaic, but should we set a key for the sequence, maybe...?
I'm musically stupid, so I always do everything in C-Minor.

Or am I jumping the gun a bit here?

The sysex is supposed to have the destination patch number in it.

Sysex (was Re: [korgpolyex] Re: composition anyone?)

2008-11-15 by korgpolyex800

OK ,I did a preliminary check of the sysex single patch dump send and
receive and on first glance it looks OK.

I was able to send your patch into my Poly and it worked fine.
Ofcourse I don't know your exact patch values so I can't confirm that
it works exactly as it should. But I did quite a bit of testing with
patches of my own and they sysex'd in and out quite OK.

I think it's all working OK.

Mike.

OK, dunno if anyone else is going to take part, but I thought I'd try and set the ball rolling.

Here's my cheesy riff:

Alex,

I am not sure that your attachments were actually attached.

I created a folder in the files section "Composition 1" where you can
drop them.

I need a musical distraction (other than Ott's Skylon). So I am
definitely going to do some composing.

Mike
