Finally opened my EX-800

Finally opened my EX-800

2008-11-06 by mtwittey

Hi all,

Last night I finally opened up my EX-800 in an attempt to clean the
buttons and contacts. Thank you who ever posted the instructions!
Everything went smoothly except one thing.

The contacts now work great but a number of the actual buttons are now
sticking (the platic bit with the numbers on it). So I've had to
remove those and just press the litte white contact bits to manipulate
my EX-800.

Is there a fix for that? Are there replacement parts I can get
somewhere?

Help!

Mike

I've searched long for these switches and I don't think they are manufactured at all any more.

I cleaned a couple of the switches on my EX-800 and didn't experience the sticking that you are talking about.

Maybe your EX-800 was in a smokey or dirty environment and the buttons are sticking within the black plastic shrouds?

Mike.

Hi Mike,

I'm the one who posted the instructions, along with another member who
took photos of the procedure...

First off, from my recollection, the "Sticky Button" problem should be
fixed by cleaning the edges of the button with alcohol along with the
inside surface of the button socket. I don't remember there being any
mechanical reason for this problem, other than build up and muck...

Try that and see if it works.

Also, make sure that when after you cleaned the contact during the
initial cleaning that you did, that you inserted the contact disc
correctly into the contact housing (dome side pointing up). The
contact not only acts as the primary contact point for the button, but
also as a "spring" to give the button it's momentary functionality.

The button is actually a very simple momentary switch that you could
easily service unless there is physical damage to any of the assembly
pieces...

Hit me up if you need any further assistance..

Erik
