two cents from Pablo

two cents from Pablo

2008-05-27 by pablo mastodon

I'm only an occasional visitor to this group, but am VERY interested
in modding my EX-800. Every other Christmas or so I go through my
under-used equipment with an eye toward picking up some extra cash
for holiday season -- I gig quite alot, but that thing takes up too
many rack spaces to travel with me, and the "home studio" isn't up
often enough for it to get much use there. So every other year I
think about selling it, but invariably I fire it up first (for a
final listen before it goes) and play with it for a while and
honestly it just sounds TOO DAMN GOOD to part with. Frankly, it's
difficult to imagine it sounding even better (not that I doubt you).
Sooooo, I patiently await production of the mod kits that I see
described here from time to time.

SUGGESTION though: perhaps you could post a FAQ with detailed
descriptions of the feature sets of the new mods. As it is, I'm
trying to piece together a complete picture from reading multiple
posts -- it would be good to get it all in one place (or did I miss
something?).

And DEFINITELY keep it right here in the same group -- no need to
splinter.

Pablo

P.S. -- Any chance you're gonna do anything for the EX-8000? I've
got two of those and love their sound almost as much.

it's already in production!

And I just managed to fix my soldering iron so I'm buying my Hawk kit
tomorrow! Incidentally, I apologize for previously referring to the
upgraded Hawk as the Tomahawk, I only yesterday realized that it's
Atomahawk (or aTomahawk), in reference to it being the digital
installation of Atom Smasher's mods. Now it all makes sense! Little
slow on the uptake, I guess!

Hi Pablo,

There's no way I am touching the EX-8000! Doing the Poly 800 and EX
800 has been two years of my life already spent.

There are two kits. The first, the HAWK-800, provides many, many new
features in new software. Check out the "Features Completed" and
"Proposed Features" pages on the HAWK-800 web site. That will give you
a good idea of what we already have in the kit and what we're planning
for the next 6 months.

The second kit, the AtomaHawk-800, will integrate the Moog Slayer
(massive resonance), the FM-800 (DCO modulation of the VCF), the
12/24dB filter switch and a couple of other hardware mod's and will
make them controllable via MIDI and through extended patch parameters.
This kit is in the prototype stage now and should be ready for
production within the next three months.

You have to have the HAWK-800 kit installed and running before you can
install the AtomaHawk-800 kit.

Mike.
