Newbie Question on No Power

Newbie Question on No Power

2008-03-28 by dniedziejko

Hey Guys,
Not a super experienced technician -- but I do love the Poly 800.
My band has grown dependant on the sounds I've modified along the
way. No number of synths have been able to come close to the
certain quality we are able to get out of it. Kinda dirty, raspy,
but very 80's. Exactly what we need.

So -- i know it could be any number of things, but the one I'm
working on right now, which has been sitting (and never has powered
up for me) displays the following issues:
Fresh Batteries do not power it up.
Wal Warts, like a universal I have (300ma 9 v setting with neg tip)
do not work.

Does this thing have a fuse somewhere inside? Is there a simple
list of things for me to look at in sequence? Or is that a totally
stupid question?

The one the band is using right now works only w/batteries. The
other is in a TV repair place with a tech because the output section
does not work at all -- no sound, but data is there for voices, etc.

This third one is not doing anything at all per my
description....I'd really like to get them all working so we have a
realiable set of backups. Insane to be using this keyboard in
clubs -yes - but we really like the sound and cant really dupe it
easily. (I'm sure there are boards out there, but I dont have huge
$$$ for them)

Thanks for your patience guys. If I get any good at this, I have a
much bigger problem in the form of an inherited PolyMoog which is in
my basement. I need to work my way up to that one....and get my
head examined!
