Taking orders for the kit now!

Taking orders for the kit now!

2008-03-04 by korgpolyex800

OK Poly fans,

the time has come to dip our toes back into the online ordering waters.

I've set up myself up with a premium paypal account and have tinkered
with the Buy It Now buttons and I believe that you should be able to
order the kit that you need for your Poly 800 Mk1 or EX 800
synthesizer module.

At this point, if there are a couple of very keen buyers out there,
then I would appreciate it you could put your hand up and I can sell
the first three units that I have. If you order today, the kit still
won't ship out until I take delivery of some of the IC sockets that
were delayed.

But I would still appreciate three of you having a go at ordering
because I want to make sure that everything works as it should.

For shipping rates I have $10 within the US and $25 outside. I am
hoping I can reduce the $25 a bit but this is all new to me so I am
going to play it as it comes to a degree. I am hoping that after you
put your order in I can then edit the order so that you can be charged
just what it takes to get the insured kit to you. I am just not sure
exactly how that all works yet.

Anyway, which three of you would like to order first?

Hi,
I would like to buy one (of the first) as well. So, I should to start to
deal with PayPal, how it works...,

I have 2 Poly800 MK1 - do you recommend to equip both with your pack ? I
red something about linking 2 Polys together, but does it work "just" via
MIDI interface, or did you discover/develope some kind of "system bus
interface" ?

What about adres and other info ?

Jusuf,

You can use PayPal to pay with most credit cards. When you use PayPal, it is going to ask you for all the address information that I need, it will handle the exchange rate as well. If you don't have a credit card then I'll have to think about how to do this. Maybe I could just have you wire the money into an account, the problem with that is that wiring money can be expensive.

The sync mode for two Poly's works across MIDI. I think sync mode is fantastic, but that's just my opinion. First of all, you can get 8 or 16 note polyphony. Second, when you do a patch change on the "master" it can send a patch sysex dump to your "slave" so that they play the same patches. You have to be careful though because you overwrite your patches on the "slave" Poly.

I'd buy one but it looks like you've already found your three beta-
testers. As we know, Marcus is keen to get his hands on two, but if
you want three beta-testers, it might not be prudent to send two of
them to him. On the other hand, it would kind of suck for him to have
to order and pay for shipping twice. Well I suppose you'll work it out
amongst yourselves... I'll definitely buy the full kit (aTomahawk) as
soon as you have one available for me. Does that mean I should put my
order in nor or wait for you to restock?

Ordering and shipping and what not

2008-03-05 by korgpolyex800

Manu, Zoinky and all,

The aTomaHawk kit is not ready yet so for those of you who want to
wait until that kit is ready you can hold off for now.

But keep in mind that you have to get the Hawk-800 kit installed and
running in your Poly first before you can do the aTomaHawk so feel
free to order the Hawk-800 if you don't mind paying the shipping
twice. Otherwise, you're going to have to wait until I get the
aTomaHawk kit ready in a few months.

Marcus ordered two Hawk-800 units and in these cases I will try to
minimize the shipping cost by shipping two kits together and refund
the difference on shipping through PayPal. I will do the same when
people order the aTomaHawk along with the Hawk-800. In that case, the
shipping should be 10 or 25 bucks to ship both kits out together. But
I haven't confirmed that yet because the aTomaHawk kit doesn't exist
yet. LOL

Right now, people who order the Hawk-800 now will go onto a first
order gets fulfilled first basis. So I would encourage those of you
who want to get on the list to order as soon as can. I expect to
receive the 10 boards that I just ordered within three weeks from
today. So you won't have too wait long after you order to get your
kit. But if people do order now, it will give me a much better idea as
to when I should order the next batch of parts and boards.

Mike.

I don't klnow if this subject has come up yet. If
shipping from U.S. to say, UK, ho0w do you envisage
the import tax aspect?

(and, a "venture capitalist" such as yourself is not
exactly the same as a corporate company who aims to
colonise the world and enslave the people)

Hi Al,

In my experience it is the importer who pays the import duty.  The exporter simply declares the value of the item.  I have imported (to the UK) some musical equipment, you get a letter from Customs asking you to pay the import duty before they release the item to you.

Cheers,
Neil

Same here (Portugal).
Customs takes the full value (price+shipping... yes, plus shipping)
and applies VAT to it (21% in this case... yes, 21%!)... and then adds
whatever import rights tax (percentage) is due, according to the
nature of the item at hand (3,2% for synths, for example)...
Now, since there are literally thousands or millions of packages
imported every day, supposedly, they do a random selection of the most
obvious "victims" (higher valued items; bigger, heavier packages), in
such a way that sometimes a low-valued item or a small/light package
goes through without taxation.
On the other hand, I believe they keep a record of "more active" - so
to speak - receivers/destinations... and tax EVERY SINGLE item the
guy/company/whatever gets... I mean... I have imported gear from the
US, Canada, Australia, Japan, wherever, and "in the beginning" (some
years ago) I believe I ocasionally got some stuff untaxed (well, small
stuff anyway), but now... even some shi**y CDs get BANG! "taxes due"
warnings stamped all over the package... lol... sad... isn´t it?
Just my 2 cents (plus VAT and import rights, if you´re abroad :P)

Import taxes and duties

2008-03-06 by korgpolyex800

The value of the package will always be set to 50 bucks and the
contents of the package will be identified as "replacement spare part"
which is technically true if you think about it.

If anyone needs any special identification to try to help the delivery
then just let me know.

I doubt that my packages are going to end up on any volume exporters
list. HAHAHA!

Mike.
