Korg Poly800/EX800 Users

Hi Poly fans,

Here's the situation, I am swamped at work and haven't been able to
make the progress I wanted to in February. So here's what I propose.

I need to finish the Moog Slayer control feature. This is critical
because when the Moog Slayer control feature is completed and tested,
the printed circuit board design will need to be modified to support
the mod.

I propose leaving the MIDI parameter controllers out of the initial
release of the kit. The reason I am suggesting this is because the
controllers are all implemented in software. So I can release the kit
and then just create the new software later. Then anyone who owns the
kit can do the software upgrade using sysex and the new firmware
(which will be downloaded from my website).

Is everyone OK with that?

Aw, that's a bit of a shame, as it was the MIDI parameter controls that I was really interested in first. Still, I'm grateful for any work you're able to do on the Poly so I shouldn't complain.

Alan,

just keep in mind that the MIDI controllers for VCF cutoff and
resonance are already implemented along with LFO1 rate as well.

The rest of the parameter controllers will come out within a few
months from now too.

So you won't have to wait long.

The kit will have a moderate level of difficulty. The hardest part is
removing the EPROM socket and the decoder chip from the main board.
They have to be replaced with low profile IC sockets that allow the
ribbon cable headers to be plugged in that jumper to main board to the
new memory board.

I am going to post very detailed instructions on how to do the whole
job with lots of hints about how to remove the EPROM socket.

So I think anyone with enough patience will be able to do the job.

and anyone else should be able to bring a copy of the instructions (and a
list of what parts are/aren't included) to a tv/vcr/guitar/amplifier/radio
repair shop and get a QUOTE (not an estimate!) on having them do the
operation.

my guess would be $75-150 US$.

Absolutely!

I think its a good idea to deliver it in steps even if you have all the time
in the world. Iterations is a buzz-word in the development community after
all. It gives you good control and it gives us time to comment your
iterations on the way.

We're waiting :-)
