Some questions about the sequencer and MIDI Tx

Some questions about the sequencer and MIDI Tx

2008-01-21 by korgpolyex800

Hi Poly fans,

I wish I had an original Poly 800 right now. But since I don't, I need
your help.

Here's another couple of questions about the Poly and the sequencer
MIDI transmit.

Does the Poly 800 send MIDI time code? Or does it just send the note
events out MIDI when the sequencer is running? Does it only send time
code when the MIDI clock source is set to internal?

Does the Poly 800 send MIDI start and stop messages when you hit the
Start/Stop button? If it does send those messages, does it only send
them when the MIDI clock source parameter is set to internal?

Thanks for your help on this.

Mike.

Hi,

According Poly 800`s manual (page 108) and my experiences :
Poly-800 can transmit and recieve the following kinds of data over
the MIDI bus :
...
3. Sequencer clock and Start/Stop control signals
...

I have controlled drum machine from Poly`s sequencer. Alesis Hr-16
reacted to pressing Start/Stop, and to tempo change as well.
I havent tried to check MIDI OUT with Ext MIDI clock. But I think in
this case OUT is without MIDI clock data.

I am going to re-connect and try out... lets wait...

Now I have MIDI configuration:

PC (Sonar) OUT ----> IN Poly800 OUT ---> IN Alesis HR-16

Alesis completly haven`t acted , when Poly800-sequencer played from
EXT clocks. No Start/Stop, no tempo change ----> no time data on
MIDI OUT.

When Poly800 produced INT clocks, Alesis played according Poly800`s
sequencer.

gazillions of controller change messages

Dave,

you will be happy to know that the code I've written to handle the
joystick does NOT send gazillions of unwanted controller change messages.

MIDI stream real fast. That has always been a big drag.

Jusuf,

thanks for the help. I spent today working on having the sequencer
send note on and off messages. And that is working good now. Now I
have to finish off by sending MIDI time code messages when the clock
source is set internal and also send start and stop commands when the
clock is internal.

Thanks to everyone for their help on this.

Just as we are in it... Mike, surely you must have heard that, even in idle mode, the Poly 800 MK I will spit out lots of controller messages (i think it was CC 1 or 2) with zero values that clog up the MIDI stream real fast. That has always been a big drag.
Maybe this could be of any help.
