The BOARD works!

The BOARD works!

2007-12-24 by korgpolyex800

Yep! That's right. I just finished testing the new board and it works
with no cut traces or blown up capacitors. It worked straight out of
the box.

And this week I also managed to tweak up portamento a little more.

I promise I will do a youtube video this week so that you can hear it
in action.

Now I need to try to package everything up a little better. Right now,
I have no instructions, the chord mode is disabled for portamento and
we know some people don't like that much, cascade mode only works
properly if you have a MIDI out duplicator and various other not so
nice software features. Plus, I intend on putting the original sound
defaults into ROM so that we can reset the Poly back to factory
defaults whenever we want.

But the main thing is that the board works and we now have a clear
path forward for getting the kit out there and available soon.

Mike.

I hope that the kit will be released soon!
Can't wait to try it on my beloved poly800s!

Wow. This is really nice Christmas news.

Good work Mike. Now take your time to do the rest right. Don't rush it. Not
too much anyhow :-)

Merry Christmas to you Mike and to the rest on the list.

most people on the list have never built anything like this from scratch,
so it might not seem that impressive that the first batch of boards
works... but i have to say i'm very impressed!

Thanks Lars,

I will take your advice. I would not consider this modification to be
very complex but it can easily go wrong at a couple of specific
stages. So it will be very important to make sure that the
instructions are detailed and provide the testing that is needed at
each step of the way through the installation.

Happy New Year to you and everyone on the list.

Mike.

Thanks Atom,

I'm not that good at false modesty so I have to confess that I was
quite happy to see that "11 P" when I powered up the EX800 with the
kit installed within it. And it is great to hear praise from someone
of your high caliber!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and all.

Mike.

Cascade mode working

2007-12-27 by korgpolyex800

Today, I got most of the cascading unit software working. I now have
my EX800 working with my Poly800 so that I get 16 note polyphony in
single mode and 8 note polyphony in double mode.

When you carry out a patch change on the Poly 800, it sends a program
change and a sysex single patch dump so that the EX800 always ends up
playing the same sound as the Poly 800.

8 note polyphony sounds BIG! Woohoo!
