Poly-800 II Service Manual and Mods

Poly-800 II Service Manual and Mods

2007-07-10 by narfman96

I was surfing Ebay yesterday when an interesting item caught my eye...

An original Poly-800 II Service Manual complete with schematics and
parts listing. Whoohoo!!! I snagged this puppy without any
hestitation. Now maybe it will be a bit easier to play around with
these mods I've been trying to get sorted out.

I spent the better part of an afternoon shotgunning components in the
feedback loop for the noise level mod without really affecting the
drone frequencies I've been trying to eliminate. I'm thinking maybe
there's a better place to control this level, like after the 2nd
stage of the 5223 op amp before it goes into the VCA. If I get
anywhere I'll post the results of my efforts. Has anyone listened to
the sample I posted of the drone sound???? Any comments???? I know
it's summer here in the states and everyone is off doing their own
thing...

When I get this manual I can scan it if anyone is interested. I doubt
there are many of these docs around nowadays. There are many other
trimpots in the Poly-800 II that could be moved to the front panel
once their function is understood. The 3 trimpots on the little
daughter board have me wondering what they do????

Well back to playing around with my DarkStar. I found a Vocoda kit to
install in this beastie.

->->->-> Mike, Keep up the great work!!!! You're still the number one
man with a plan in my book! Someday I would like to see your program
flowcharts Mr. Einstein. (I'm not being facetious.)

Shows how much of a programmer I am. Not!

You must have some way of denoting all the sub-routines, program
branches and loops.

I used the old electronics analogy of water to circuitry or flow
chart. Ooops!

Re: Flow chart?

Fran,

I was just being facecious. I haven't resorted to flow charts yet
because the disassembly is actually not too difficult to read - yet.

I happened to commute to work on the train this morning rather than
drive so I had an hour to work on the note on event handler and was
able to work out some more details about that. Most important, I
discovered the note value table for each of the eight DCO's and I
think I've found the table that holds the sustain/release mode for
each DCO also.

I also seem to have found the EG3 retriggering mechanisms and the
filter cutoff adjustment code snippets.

These are big improvements in my understanding of the real time
handling of note generation. From what I've seen of the EG3 code so
far, it looks like we could probably fit another EG into the code.

I don't own a Poly 800 MKII and its electronics is so different to the
original MKI that I don't propose to do anything on the MKII at all.
Someone else would have to pick up the ball and run with mods for the
MKII so good luck with it.

Mike.
