Randomization ?

Randomization ?

2007-07-10 by jusufzemplin

Hi , I had an idea about making some modification, what
would "randomize" values of Envelope generators for example in some
limits. Sound would be more life. I wanted to achieve it by "solder-
way" (till now I dont know how). But of course it would be better to
have it in software. Mike, would it be possible, or hardly possible, or
impossible ? I think, "random" is hard thing for programmers...

This would take a lot of work but could be done. The question is will
the work be worth the result. I am not sure that it would be worth the
work.

But, I am planning on making the EX800 velocity sensitive and that
could and should include an envelope sensitivity so that the attack or
decay (or any part of the EG's) could be altered by velocity. That
might get what you wanted anyway.

Just thinking about it, I wonder how many synthesizers just stretch
out the attack dependent upon the velocity in order to provide
velocity sensitivity?

Mike.

I supposed it ,though I have only elementary knowledge of programming.

Yes, it would be great!! It is much better way to this result. It would
be "randomization" of sound with possibility of exact controlling thru
MIDI controller. But it is not necessary to bind only with Velocity
controller...

I dont know how many, but my second synth - Kawai K-1 has similar
possibility. Attack time can depend on velocity and attack+decay time
can depend on key position as well (e.g. basses have faster attack than
high tones have). I can make a sample, how it sounds. I will try to do
it with some Poly-800-like sound.

================

don't forget the option to invert the velocity settings!

Atom,

How would would you use that?

Mike.

one way would sound like "bleoop", and he inverse would sound like in
inverted "bleoop" ;)

off the top of my head, i can't think of a popular synth that implements
it, but have the option to raise or lower the filter cuttoff [or
resonance] (level or EG level) based on velocity.
