Poly-800 II Manual

Poly-800 II Manual

2007-04-03 by narfman96

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a Poly-800 II manual? If so does
anyone have a PDF copy?

I just picked up one that needs some work but I was able to get a
really good bank of sounds from it using a combination of Midiquest
9.1 and Midi-Ox so I have the sysex. I can load the factory presets
and 2 or 3 other banks I found using Midi-Ox. The synth sends
everything at once but my Midiman USB was up to the task. The other
question I have is it sends random breath controller and modulation
messages every 5 to 15 seconds. Is this normal? The values are 0 but
it constantly sends them unless doing a sysex transfer. Also
Midiquest will not let me edit the banks because the parameters are
the same for every patch. Even though if I load the bank back in all
the sounds are right. Weird!!! I e-mailed the MQ support guru on
this. Does this mean there isn't an editor for this great synth?????

Stay tuned I have to go to the hospital to see my new grandson!

Thanks for any insight, Narfman

I've got one in PDF. It's about 25 MB in size. I could try to send it
to you tomorrow via e-mail, if it gets through, or maybe upload it to
some sharing host. Any recommendations, by the way?
Best regards.

Hi Marcin,

Thanks for the quick reply and the offer! YouSendIt.com is the one
S-H I see most often. They've never hassled me after registering. I
don't think my Yahoo account allows more the 10 MB at a time. The
file area here is 100mb now if you wanted to post it in the files
section for a while and then take it down that would probably be cool
too. Is there a lot more to the manual than the first edition?

Right now I've cleaned all the buttons and pots after disassembling
the whole synth. I cleaned and lubed the joystick thinking maybe
that is the source of the midi CC chatter. I replaced the corroded
(but not the board, whew!) battery with a nice gold contact holder
and fresh CR2032. Next all the keys need cleaning. 2 "F" keys are
not working and the "G4" key is snapped off but still works. Dust
Bunnies have been multiplying in the puppy for years for sure.

Thanks again, Narfman

Re: Poly-800 II Manual

Hi Narfman,
So, here you are!
I uploaded it to Rapidshare (thank you Marco Andreetta!). Perhaps not
the most convenient, but free and without registration, so I could do
it quickly.
Here's the download link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/24258106/Poly800II_manual.pdf.html

I personally own Poly 800 MkI and got the instruction for MkII at
some time only for comparison. Therefore I am not that familiar with
it. But there's definitely more on MIDI implementation inside it. I
hope it will help you though. And I wish you good luck with the
restoration of your Poly MkII.
Best regards
Marcin

Re: Poly-800 II Manual

2007-04-04 by narfman96

Hey Marcin,

That was just what the doctor ordered! Thank you for going through
the extra effort to upload this manual. This shows me a whole lot
more than the first edition manual. The midi spec is much more
complete. I'll try when I get time to crunch this file down to a more
manageable size and post it here.

I've got everything back together and working as it should. The dead
keys had dried out moth larvae under the rubber pads. So I would
guess this was stored for a while in someone's closet. I still have
one busted key but I sould be able to get that from synthparts.com.
The key action is clean and precise now that everything is cleaned up
and lubed properly.

I figured out the midi CC chatter. Cleaning the joystick didn't make
any difference but when I turn on the Program Write Enable switch all
the chatter goes away. Maybe Korg was using this chatter for a midi
heartbeat. Any ideas???

So now I've begun writing patches from front panel of this Poly since
Midiquest told me they only wrote a Librarian not an Editor for this
synth. I can't even store the individual patches in a Library or swap
them around in a bank in Midiquest. So every bit of work must be
saved in a bank. Even if I only worked on one patch. Geeeeez Guuuuys!
Some librarian! The Poly-800 Mark II manual shows in detail the
structure of the patch dumps so maybe I can figure out how to move
the patches around manually in hex. More fun!

Thanks for all the help, Narfman

Hi Marcin,

Since Yahoo has expanded the storage on our group to 100M bytes, you
could upload the file to the files section of our group.

Mike.
