Button help PPPlease!!

Button help PPPlease!!

2007-01-04 by Erik Hines

I found an EX at the thrift store for $7.00! I just intalled the Moog
Slayer Mod , I gotta say that it definitely breathes new life into this
thing! Now I'm confronted with problem #2...The EX800 buttons suck!!
Does anyone have any advice on cleaning\repair\replacement of the
buttons, or know where I an find a board with buttons that don't suck!?
I swear I'm going to end up cracking the board because I'm having to
push so hard on 'em...

mine were corroded, and wouldn't make contact no matter how hard i pushed.

i ended up desoldering the lot of 'em, and replacing them with
common tactile momentary SPST microswitches, like you would use in the
x0xb0x. sure, it's ugly, and i used a sharpie to label them -- not a big
deal, as i've already drilled three holes for the pots for the moog slayer
and FM-800 mods.

the box is perfectly functional now, and is an essential component in my
quests in sound design. :)

I would love to see a photo of your "new" switches on your EX800.

Or maybe I wouldn't!

I had a similiar problem. I was given a EX800 but all the buttons were so
dirty and stuck they
did not function. I had a tech do several things......he added two buttons
on back panel and moved the tune and sequence speed function to them. He
then turned the tune button into the filter cutoff and the sequencer button
into the Q. He also modified the filter to be very active (He said it was
similiar to Slayer mod but his was better).
He then removed all the old buttons and replaced them with smaller push
buttons that come directly up from the circuit board. I can't recall what he
called the buttons....but they are smaller and a bit touchy, but they work
very well. I can post pictures if you would like to see his handy work.

Re: Button help PPPlease!!

Hi there. I had the same problem with my Poly 800. I desoldered all
switches, even though many still worked fine. Replaced them with
similar siwtches, only the new ones are smaller so I have to hit the
Poly's buttonsright in the middle in order for them to work.
Otherwise, they work fine. I'm uploading two pictures - halfway thru
the process (old switches are black and bigger) and after replacing
all switches.

hope this helps

Dave
