casio cz-101 and poly-800: what a mighty alliance!

Wholehearted and passionate discussions on "my synth-beats-your- synth" ;^) aside, I'd like to add my 2 cents. Midi'ing a CZ-101 and a Poly-800 back in 1990 was a lot of fun! I was able to get real lush and complex sounds by comping Poly's murky sound with those tinny brittle FM-like Casio timbres! IN particular I remember being able to mimick that Lyle Mays signature sound (kinda pan flute with a detuned attack) in an astoundingly faithful fashion! Guys would come over to my two humble keyboards and scratch their heads in amazement... I would combine a square wave patch on the Poly with a white noise attack with a clean similar sound on the Casio but with detuned attack on one osc a la Oberheim. Bellisimo! Dave
