How does one program it. I would like some cool organ sounds. I have a leslie rotary box so the sounds can be plain while I operated the leslie effect personally. Any other advice and/or programming effects would be appreciated. Thanks Greg

Hey Greg. Nice find!! How to program it: First, you flip the program switch on the back to "enable". Then you hit the "para" key in the upper right corner of the (8 digit?? why God, why??) keypad, that will bring up a parameter number and the current value of the parameter. You adjust the value of the specified parameter up and down with the up and down buttons. You go through parameter by parameter like this. The huge chart on the machine tells you what they all are. It's kind of a pain, but if you hit keys while you adjust each parameter you can get a feel for what they all do. When you get your patch all nice and how you want it, hit the "write" button. It will ask you where you want to write it too. You enter a two digit location and there it will be. The poly is not the easiest synth to learn to program on. I recommend reading up on subtractive synthesis to get a grasp on key concepts like oscilators, waveforms, envelope generators, LFOs and filters. Another way to program is to load up whole banks of 64 patches using the "tape in" input using the computer. It will take a bit of trial and error to get that to work (in my case it took a lot) because the volume has to be just right. I now have a procedure that works every time. There are a few banks of patches in the files section of the group page in .wav format. For a good head start, I would recommend getting the "Korg Poly-800 / EX-800 - Patches Manuals More!" disc that this guy sells on ebay. It has over 500 programs on it including a whole bank of just organ programs like you want. Bear in mind that they are fairly simple emulations though, not like a sample based keyboard i capable of. The disc is well worth it for a huge smorgasbord of programs. There is a bunch of other valuable info on it too. I bought it, I love it. No one else on this group wants to fess up to owning it though ;). The "tape" load procedure is detailed in the manual. You should give that section of the manual a quick read as well as the bit on programming. It is also in the files. Feel free to write me if you have any specific questions. I'm no expert, I have only really been aware of synthesizers for a year and a half, but I am enthusiastic about the Poly 800. It is one of the cheapest, most abundant analog synths around and it sounds damn good. It is sort of the AK-47 of synthesizers. The people's synth. Not for synth snobs. whew!!
