Would degradation be a problem? A decent quality mp3 might "sound" right,
but how would it go for data transfer stuff?

I'm still yet to get patches to transfer properly via audio - the most I've
got is about a quarter of a set, which is all that's on my poly at the
moment...

Does anyone know anything about the data-to-audio / audio-to-data method that
is used? ie., do you think it would be possible to make up some program that
could analyse a wav file and extract the patch settings from it? Could be a
first step to creating a reverse process whereby you could program all your
patches using virtual knobs on your computer, write these settings to a wav
file, then dump it to the poly?

i thought of that to... so i suggest to encode in the highest quality
possible (what was it again? 360khz or something like that)since 15
seconds of mp3 will not get infinitely big....
i havent tried it yet, but will in the near future. personally i have
a lot to do the next two weeks and will only be reading the posts here
(with the occasional replies, of course ;) )
so you´ll have to wait a little longer...

hm, strange... it worked the first time i ever tried it - no problem
at al. then, of course, i might just have been lucky...
i do it via an aux send on my mixing console - the monitor is down to
silence this meeeeeeeauwouwerahawaououueeeeee, the bus with the
soundcard is up so that the max peak is 0 db and the aux send is on
full. the tape selector is set to low. dunno, maybe this will work for
you too...

interesting idea.... no, i don´t know anything about that.....
except that if such a software was developed it would have to come
with a complete poly 800 emulation since only some knobtweaking
resulting in a wavefile will give you absolute no impression on how
the patch you are currently editing will sound like..... it would
(given the editor has no sound output) just be senseless
"let´s-turn-this-one-this-time".
but, as usual, you´re welcome to start this project ;)

so long for now,
christian

I know there's a program that does that for MC-202 patterns. Someone
reverse-engineered the signals in the tape dump...very interesting idea but
it's not too convient.
