i have the polarity right, bcause it does power up, it is just that when i hit a note it changes pitch, and is very wobbly. It might not be the adapter, it might just be my poly 800 is messed up. but the batteries worked for the first 15 minutes, then i went to turn it back on an 30 min later, and the pitch wobble started back. do you have any idea whats wrong? thanks, --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "Phoebe October" <october71@g...> wrote: > > --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "jynjamar" <jynjamar@y...> wrote: > > > > hey, > > i just gt a poly 800 and i need to find an adapter. What's the current rating of the universal? Most of the ones I've seen aren't very high. I'd go with a nice brawny one like 800mA or 1A and dedicated 9V. And it's positive sleeve/ negative tip. Once you're sure the power's right and you still have the problem, it could be the joystick or its reading circuitry. Contact cleaner followed by working the stick all around might do it. Or, this thing is full of ribbon cables, wire harnesses and connectors, and there could be a loose or oxidized one. Good luck, simple things first! hey, the current is 300mA. i can record the crazy sounds this thing makes if it will help anyone identify the problem. thanks --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, Mike Nelson <manicmaestro@y...> wrote:

if you have a universal, it should work. maybe you have the polarity set wrong. i have 2 universals and they both work with any keys i play.

I know the one I'm using is a 1A. The low current could be causing your problems. cya, Phoebe aka october71

The radio shcack 9v adapter for the sega genesis works perfectly, the polarity is correct, the connector fits snug, and it's got plenty of power to keep the poly from freaking out (Like it does when it's low on battery or you're running it off a cordless phone adapter :) --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "Phoebe October" <october71@g...> wrote: > > --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "jynjamar" <jynjamar@y...> wrote: > > > > hey, > > i just gt a poly 800 and i need to find an adapter. well, i went to radio shack today and tried out an 800mA adapter, and it still made those crazy noises!!!! so i guess it must be something else besides the power supply. if anyone has any ideas let me know. and thanks everyone fortrying to help me!! --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "Alexander" <arf_hotdogdeity@y...> wrote: > The radio shcack 9v adapter for the sega genesis works perfectly, the > polarity is correct, the connector fits snug, and it's got plenty of > power to keep the poly from freaking out (Like it does when it's low > on battery or you're running it off a cordless phone adapter :) > --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "Phoebe October" <october71@g...> > wrote: > > > > --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "jynjamar" <jynjamar@y...> wrote: > > > > > > hey, > > > i just gt a poly 800 and i need to find an adapter. May be i'm wrong but do you check the parameter of your patches? I had a similar problem with my poly MKI. I don't have a back up battery, so when the poly was power down I loose my patches and the parameters was all messed up, strange values appears and the poly made crazy noises. If it is the case you just have to put back the factory patches into your synth. Hope it will fix your problem. Good luck Bernard

You don't need to put back the factory patches. you just need to get SOMETHING in there. Sit down with it and make a patch or three. Mine wiped out 2 banks (70 and 80 i think) when it's batteries went low. --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "satnom2000" <satnomb@m...> wrote:

I always get my backup PS adapters at goodwill or salvation army from $.50 to $5.00. They usually have a box of em to sort through. find one that matches your volts (9v for a korg Poly800) and preferabbly match the milliamps too. If the polarity is reversed, you can always cut the cord at one end and reverse the wires to switch polarity which is what I had to do on my poly800 because it's polarity is different than most 9v adapters.... Or go to Radioshack and buy a universal adapter for $12-$20 that comes with a variety of adapter plugs and you can adjust the voltage and polarity on those.
