It must have negative to the centre pin and put out around 9V at a minimum of 800mA - use a PSU that can deliver at least 1A for best results. I used to use a 9V 1.5A ZX Spectrum PSU for a long time. Now I use a custom-built 9V 8A PSU driving all my 9V gear through a small distribution box.
