This input allows you to modulate the brightness of the trace (it's called the Z-axis because it's like a third dimension - the "in and out" direction). It allows you you do some interesting tricks (like turning your scope into a tiny black-and-green TV if you like), but generally isn't that much use. Cheers mark-r
