Hello all:
I'm new to the list ( hopped over from the 'newmellotrongroup' )
having purchased a Poly-800 MKII recently. In reviewing the posts of
the last while I've discovered that I've landed smack in the middle
of a circuit bending world, of which I know little! I just wanted a
synth to augment my Mellotrons.
I have a simple question and I apologize for dumbing down the recent
Moog Slayer threads.
Am I able to use the Poly-800 MKII as a midi controller to play some
VST stuff I have on my computer? I have an Edirol USB to Midi
connector. If it is possible, how do I set things up?
The Moog Slayer sounds great, but a great challenge for me to install-
the eventual battery change is rocket science enough for me, but one
can always learn...
Now back to my electro-mechanical 'trons...

Hiya Dan,
The Poly-800 wouldn't be my first choice of controller keyboard. It has no velocity sensitivity or aftertouch, both of which are useful for articulating the expressiveness of your playing, amongst other things. Also there is a fairly limited octave range to play on. However, if you simply want the bare bones of something to program in some arrangements to your computer sequencer, it should be up to the task (notwithstanding some of the technical caveats I've read of on this group). You just need to take midi cables from the Poly-800 to the usb midi connector and ensure both the synth and the vst device are set to the same midi channel. The details of this are as rich and varied as the number of set-ups it's possible to use. If you're new to midi I suggest you do a 'beginners guide to midi' type google search (other search engines are available) just to get you through the basics.
