Is the mistake is to remove all of the C103, I think we have to just
cut the positive leg, Am I right? And also, what do you think of this
idea of mounting a 100k pot in place of the switch?

Yes, the mistake is the removal of the C103 and
inverting polarity.
The 100k pot will allow a transition between filter
slopes. I wouldn't implement it myself since most usual way in history of synths
has been toggling between them rather than fading... A pot takes up more room as
well than a switch.
