Korg Poly800/EX800 Users

It's time to add surface mounted filter knobs for my Poly-800II. I'm
afraid I might ruin something, so I probably won't do the Moog Slayer.
However, I want the filter to be more expressive than the digital
parameters allow. I want the cutoff to go as low as when i add full
VCF (Parameter 84) to the LFO. 

Is this possible without using the LFO whith the simple filter mod?
That would give me high enough Q without ruining my amplifier and
speakers.

I've read somewhere that I should use a 100k pot for the resonance,
but here it says I should use a 10K one. Does it matter? What's the
difference? Should I use logarithmic or linear pots? Again, what's the
audible difference?

Also, does the Moog Slayer cause any damage to the Poly-800? Hearing
what it does and comparing it to what the unmodified Poly can do gives
me a feeling that it will break something soon.
