IMO the Z1 offers more than the JD800. I would recommend not getting either of these and just go for a good affordable Virtual Analog like a JP8000, JP8080 or maybe a korg MS2000 or a Virus if you got the cash. Try and find a board that has velocity sensitive keys and built in effects processor (at least 1). The above models all have that although the JP-8000 keyboard keys are crap (like wobbling sponges to play on), but a great sound no less. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure there's a million options out there. AThe poly800 is a fun board to experiment with. It definately has it's own sound, though I wouldn't rate the sound as the best for electronic music. It can create some great 80's sounds, but it's not as flexible as others. But... for the price of a poly 800 it is well worth it. I got mine for $50 with a hard case on ebay, so you can't beat that for a MIDI capable synth. FYI- The poly800 does NOT have velocity sensitive keys so it's not ideal for use as a midi controller.

i dont have a poly 800 but i might get one these days. we're playing depeche mode kind stuff(de/vision,OMD, camouflage, etc), would you recommend me to buy one, I have not tried it yet.
besides i ve got another question, if you ve got any idea, my friend is gonna buy another synth and she has 2 options:korg z1 and roland jd 800, which one do you think is more suitable for electronic, depeche kind music?

thanx
