I don't have a GMega, so I can't provide any direct suggestions, but
it's not a bad idea to start with an existing sound patch. You could
use one of the factory sounds, for example. and change individual
parameters while listening carefully for how the sound changes.
I do not know of a way to import sounds directly from other synth's
patches (roland or korg, for example), though you may be able to
create similar sounds by looking at the parameters and recereating
them as well as you can on a GMega patch.
Synth patch design is both an art and a science. One good way to start
is simply to get your hands dirty. Having a solid foundation of basic
sound/music theory also might help.
