Help please with: Lexicon Omega MIDI and Kawai K4 synthesizer patch editor

2007-02-17 by monk

Hi,

My new Lexicon Omega studio will record audio but I am having trouble
getting the MIDI to function correctly.
When I turn on my K4 it crashes Window... Any suggestions?

Also I have on old Win copy of:
Kawai K4 synthesizer patch editor
I am using a new WinVista machine as my DAW and am trying to
configure this editor to work so that I can up and down load my
patches.

I am serious about getting my hardware connected.
I am willing to pay or trade for successful assistance getting my K4
to work with the Editor and Omega!

Thank you for your kind assistance,

monk@... is my direct email.

Do a dual boot with windows xp and Windows Vista, cos Vista is almost 100 %
surely the problem, imho. It has very strict hardware and security
requirements. The midi unit you use could be the problem (thus vista) if it
is a usb midi hub, forget it, it just wont work until sp1 is out or a good
update of your hardware supplier. Try to connect it with a game-port to midi
extension cable on any old-fashioned sound card like a SB live or cheaper.
You will get a very reliable midi connection through this gameport to midi
cable. Better than any usb midi (ahum, well a lot any how). Midi is already
really 80s technology and as a protocol seems to be implemented more sturdy
through cheap soundcard chips than through a lot of the usb hubs.

Buy me a beer if this solved it ;-).gotta get to the Netherlands tho

Hi Marc,

Vista is the problem.
And Vista will not allow one to use Partition Magic to create a new
partition to do the dual boot!!!

Fortunately I bought my DAW putah from Dell and they gladly let me
return the Vista machine. I now have a screamin' P4 3.2ghz 1gb ram
with WinXP and the Omega LOVES it!
My K4 is connected to the Omega midi and my old Cakewalk PA9.3 is
successfuly installed and already controlling it!

I own you a case of good BEER! Amsterdam notwithstanding.

You can hear my first music cd recorded in 1995 using my original K4
at www.sonicslit.com

I am excited because I will be buying a soft ATMOSPHERE™ -DREAM SYNTH
MODULE to compose with.

Tell me more about you and your work with the K4

Send me your post address and I will send you something cool to thank
you for your assistance!

All the best,
