Re: Kawai K4 Power Adapter?

2007-06-16 by narfman96

Wow Steve that's an amazing deal!!!
However the power supply deal sounds worse than "Flirting With
Disaster" by Molly Hatchet. There is a blocking diode in the K4r
power section and that's probably doing the half wave thing but the
power factor is way off. This can't be good for either module. The
only thing I could find on the XD5 was the same DC IN 12V that's
printed on my K4r is shown on page 5 of the PDF manual Kawai has on
their site. The power consumption isn't listed on the spec page but
it's the K4r's sister so it should be the same value.

According to the manual this (the only?) Kawai Percussion Synthesizer
has 256 waves and samples to play around with. 16 bit 44k technology
for the samples and the waves are the same as the K4(r). These sound
great in the K4 and I'm betting the XD5 can do the TB303, TR909 and
all these popular sought after sounds. There's even a gated mode and
8 outputs. Neat! Tell us how it sounds when you get a chance....

something like that (don't recall the current actually but it was
smallish). the AC thing surprised me. They work fine with the 12v
ac output adapter. does it really need ac though or is it ignoring
half the waveform and only needs dc power?

and m-audio x-session.

orbit v2 both impress me a lot. the orbit has portamento which I
love for leads, and it has nice filters, the k4r has one wicked
filter though.... fairly edgy analog sounding unit.
