controling k3 with midi controler

controling k3 with midi controler

2004-02-11 by brian_ackley

hi.
i have a k3 and a midiman oxygen 8. i want to be able to control the patch
parameters on the k3 through the oxygen 8. i.e. turn a nob and have the cutoff go up
and down. seems pretty basic but all i can get to happen is basic note and pitch bend
action. what are the parameter numbers that the k3 receives the different settings? i
tried "10" for cutoff (to match the number you press when parameter edit is on on the
k3)

is that possible with just a midi connection or do i need some software to be
involved?

thanks in advance.

If the Oxygen is capable of transmitting sysex control messages, then you can control the k3 that way, it doesn't really use controllers. For info on how to do this, you will have to dig into the K3 manual - I uploaded a PDF to the Files section a few weeks ago.

So I've had the K3 for about 4 years but haven't really used it as much as I want to. I
think that *sounds* really good but it is not really playable outside of the straight
forward keyboard playing. I love a synth where most aspects of the sounds are
maleable while playing it. I wanted to add the controller to get that depth.

Any suggestions? I mean besides buying a MS20?

I don't see the pdf.

Whatever the last parameter you edited from the front panel before you saved the patch is directly accessable with the data/increment wheel, without having to select the parameter, so you can just set that to the filter. Also, the velocity and pressure control options allow you to do some pretty nice things with the filter and oscillator balance, so that you can get some nice real time effects.

yes, obviously there is the wheel but that is hardly flexible seeing as it is locked to
one parameter during performance and it is not very responsive. the velocity and
pressure controls are a joke because you really have to pound on the keys to get any
kind of change.

so can anyone tell me how to make the k3 work with a controller?

Well, on my machines, they are quite sensitive, I don't have to pound on 'em... As far as performance controller, you want something that you can load a sysex string into and vary one byte of that string with the controllers. One software is called ccmemo & it lets you do that sort of thing, remap controllers to sysex, if you have the patience to set it up.
ccmemo should be here:
