Manuals

2015-12-09 by jdearing17@...

Just want to let the remaining active members know that I just won a K5m on eBay with a bunch of extras, an that I will be uploading some missing manuals to the files section. These include:

Kawai K5 Making it Happen by Dan Walker

Overtone Syntonyx Editor/Librarian for the Kawai K5 (IBM PC Version)

K5 Wave Library

Sound Quest Midi Quest v7.0

Pretty excited to receive this stuff, I am planning on using it with my other K5m for stereo patches and more ;-)

Thank you!

I assume the K5 waves are the factory patches?

Hi jdearing;
I'm the guy that sold you the K5m. I'm glad you received it. I really enjoyed it while I owned it, and I used it on a number of projects. If you've got any questions, just let me know.

Re: Manuals

I should receive it tomorrow actually. I will take very good care of it. Did you change the display yourself? If so, if you happen to have the part numbers still, my other K5m still has its original screen/backlight and it's pretty dim. I've already had to relocate the battery, it was leaking so I mounted a AA size 3.6v lithium on the transformer. I know I can perform the work, I just haven't done enough research.

Re: Manuals

2015-12-11 by jdearing17@...

I will find out when I receive it tomorrow. It does not look like a Kawai manual.

Re: Manuals

2015-12-13 by antdes45@...

Hi,

Before scanning the Overtone manual, note it's already in the files section. Might be worth looking if you have a more recent version of the software than I posted. (Overtone V1.04)

Cheers,
Antoine

Maintenance (was: RE: [k5synth] Re: Manuals)

If you have a Kawai branch in your country, you could phone them and ask for K5 tech info. I did that with the German branch for info on converting my unit to 220V. They may sell pianos only nowadays, but they still have techs with knowledge (or at least documentation) on the old synths.

I still have to replace my old LCD so will give them a call again soon, so if you don't find anything, let me know and I'll try to get you your info from Kawai Germany.

By the way, did anybody mod their K5m's enclosure for better heat dissipation? I find the thing terribly cramped and it does get hot. Do like the tabletop option tho = would like to keep the slanted back, so not sure yet what to do.

Hi,
I'd be really interested to see that book: Kawai K5 Making it Happen by Dan Walker
Were you still planning on uploading? Or had you done it and I just haven't found it yet?

Thanks so much.
By the way, if you need to replace the backlight, I just did mine last weekend. It was a *snap*. I bought the part from http://www.telesisgear.com It was like $31 with shipping... Very simple installation.

Sincerely,
RK Faulhaber

Hello,

I'm also interested in the "Kawai K5 - Making It Happen" book by Dan Walker. It seems to be very hard to track down.

I got a Kawai K5 some months ago, and have been slowly building some utilities to generate patches (a bit like Edisyn but batch-oriented, command line tools). It would be really helpful to have a look at Walker's book to complement the user manual.

Regards
Jere

I have a copy of this book. I’m not sure I want to part with it, but perhaps I could make a scan version as long as it was no longer in print and couldn’t be obtained any other way.

Seems like it is no longer in print -- both Amazon and Google Books list it, but it is not available (see https://www.amazon.com/Kawai-K5-Making-Dan-Walker/dp/B00072AJ5M/). Also, the original publisher (Alexander Publishing) does not have it in their catalog anymore. I've also searched on usedbooksearch.co.uk, but only the Amazon listing came up.

I would certainly appreciate a scan, and I'm sure many other members of this group would too, if it's not too much trouble.

Best,
Jere

I won’t be able to get it done in the immediate future, but will post when I have it finished.

If you're planning on coding in Java, let me know if you'd like help hijacking Edisyn's code to make your patch generation easier.

Hello!

I'd be also interested in a scanned copy of the Kawai K-5 book. I'd pay a few EU, USD for the dowloadable scans. I think many of us would be happy about it. Please keep us informed sometimes!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
