There is a utility program that can send single cycle waves to the k5 which makes it quick the only down side is it loads the waveform for both layers but detuning them you can get fat sounds
I did several sf2 instruments from it
It has a nice dirty filter so with some programming you can get some great sounds
Only surpassed by the k5000 which allows upto 6 layers and pcm transients

Thanks! I think I will program some more patches and upload the bank to the group files. I think it's intimidating sometimes when you have to program your waveforms from scratch every time. Kawai would have had a little better design if they would have included a library of waveforms you could choose as a start, but keep experimenting! After a while the programming gets easier. Great stuff, and all too true. I was so disappointed with the presets of my K5M that I've never installed it in my studio; but I know that with a little effort, it should be capable of some great sounds. Feel free to post a file of your programs, they sound good! I'll have to make some space in my rack and give the K5m another go...
