Problem with Emulator 2 Sound Library.....

Problem with Emulator 2 Sound Library.....

2010-02-07 by pimis67

Hi again......I purchased an Emulator 2+,the cable to connect it with my Macintosh Plus,Sound Designer,an Apple CD300 cd-rom and the hole sample library in zip format. When i unzipped the files on my Mac G4 laptop some of the libraries unzipped and have the extension .EII(OMI UOS VOL.1,2, EII, and Northstar Gold), some have the .nrg extensions(OMI CD 1 Universe of sounds and OMI CD 2 Universe of sounds) and one has .toast extension(EII Northstar).Apart from the .EII files there is no way i can open or extract or mount the others!!!!! I use Toast 10 and cannot mount the .nrg files or the .toast file......Any help....????? Thanks....And also if i pass this stage what i should do next.......???Total darkness.........Thanks again!!!

Strange that your seller would disappear before telling you what you were buying and how to use it..?

.nrg is a Nero CD image (Nero is CD writing program for PC).
.toast is a Toast CD image (Toast is a CD writing program for Mac).

If you want to see what these are about, you may have to use these files to burn CDs (instead of trying to mount the files directly). After burning these images to CD-R media however, you may find that the created CDs are in OMI CDS3 format and still unreadable by your Apple CD300. In this case Id bet that your working unzipped files with the .EII extension are the very same files located in the .nrg and .toast CD images, and you were just given duplicate copies in the original OMI CDS3 format.

If you have further questions about converting/burning CD images (off topic for this group), I can try to point you in the right direction if you email me off-list.

In addition, if these Nrg or Toast files are indeed CDS3 images of the UOS cdroms, you can send me an e-mail and I can provide you a small program (for Windows only...) which can convert CDS3 images to a set of .EII files.
But if you received also about 1500 individual .EII files, then most probably you indeed already have the contents of these Nrg/Toast files in .EII format.

Have you already tried this and failed? Id so, what steps did you take when you tried and what errors are you seeing?

PS: Hey E-Synth, would it be possible to host a copy of your CDS3 conversion utility in our file section? Thanks, -Hex

Ok, better to save your questions until your system is complete and your attempts to get it working have been unsuccessful. ;)

Even if the system is not ready i think it doesn't hurt anybody to ask if the .EII format is readable by Sound Designer. And if its bad everybody has the option to discard my question....Thanks for the advice though.........;-)

The mere presence of an .EII extension alone does not guarantee a file is in the correct format, has its resource fork intact, and will be readable by SD. Without a cable and otherwise completely functional system, you are simply not equipped to run the tests needed to verify correct operation. Its also a redundant question: You will not know if your files work until you try them, and as soon as you do that you will have obtained the answer on your own.

OK will do. Sorry if my advice offended you.
