RS422 between Emulator II and Windows PC

Perhaps some of you may know already that the RS422 project has made a big step forward last week. Based on a prototype device created by Julian from the Yahoo Emax Group, I succeeded in transferring sound banks between the Emax and my Windows PC after applying some small changes to the device and its firmware. I have tested this custom built RS422<-->USB device now also with the Emulator II, and after some additional changes these tests were successful too. I'm able now to upload SD for EII files from my Windows PC directly to the EII, and of course also to unload banks from the EII towards the PC. The transfer time is currently about 20 seconds (as opposed to 13 with the Mac) but I'll try to further optimize this. Julian is now upgrading the device in order to remove the "prototype" label of it: adding proper connectors, safety circuits, a nice little case, a led, and so on. After this has been done, the device (and/or its schematics) will be available to everyone I guess. EMXP will of course be upgraded also in order to support the Emax and Emulator II file transfers. We also have already a rough and wild idea about developing a stand-alone version of this device: a little box which can be connected to the RS422 port of the EII and which can hold a USB memory stick for reading/writing soundbanks, without any PC hooked up to the EII. But we are not working on this (yet) ! A happy new year to everyone ! ///E-Synthesist
